PIT COUNT 2024

The Point in Time (PIT) Count is an annual, nationwide census of people experiencing homelessness that provides a one day only snapshot of the homeless experience. The PIT Count provides self-reported data of the experiences and needs of people experiencing homelessness in our community for funding and program improvement for years to come.

This one day only event relies on our community and volunteer base to help support every person counting in Denton County.

When?      January 25th, 2024

Where?     Across Denton County

How?         With Your Help!

We know support looks different for each person, so we want to find the best fit for your involvement!

One of the main ways we can ensure each person counts is by having enough volunteers to survey people that day.

Volunteer Expectations:

  • Complete a registration form.
  • 1-2 hours of volunteer training before the date (dependent on PIT experience).
  • 2 hours of volunteering day of to survey people at varying locations. You will be assigned into groups of 2-4 people to go to locations and survey together. Surveying from volunteers happens in parking lots, nonprofit agencies, parks, etc. Volunteers do not enter encampments for surveying purposes, these locations are covered by trained teams of staff and PD.
  • Debrief with staff on questions, future involvement, and your experience when you return from your 2 hour volunteer shift.

Each year during the count we provide people experiencing homelessness a bag of goodies for sharing their experience with us. We encourage anyone interested to purchase or host a drive for items needed to fill our bags.

Drop off at United Way of Denton County – 1314 Teasley Lane, Denton TX by January 16th, 2024.

We even have an Amazon Wishlist to provide an easy way to support from your desk or couch!

Spreading the opportunities and efforts to your friends, family, and coworkers in order to encourage more volunteers or donations helps build our community efforts even more.

Have questions or want a team member to present last year’s report or this year’s opportunity to your staff, board, or group?
