Denton County’s 2026 PIT Count will be held on Thursday, January 22nd, 2026.
The Point in Time (PIT) Count is an annual, nationwide census of people experiencing homelessness that provides a one day only snapshot of the homeless experience. The PIT Count provides self-reported data of the experiences and needs of people experiencing homelessness in our community for funding and program improvement for years to come.
This one day only event relies on our community and volunteer base to ensure every person in Denton County counts.
How Can You Help Make Denton County’s 2026 Count Seamless?
Volunteer for the PIT Count
Denton County relies on 200+ volunteers each year to ensure the PIT Count accurately reflects the needs and services locally. Volunteers commit to 4 hours of service (2 hours of training prior to 1/22/26 and 2 hours of surveying on 1/22/26). Steps to becoming a volunteer this year:
- Complete Training Registration (form below!)
- Select a Volunteer Shift Time (Link will be sent to you within one week of completing this registration).
- Attend Your Selected Training time/date.
- Arrive at your assigned HUB location and check in at your shift time.
- Survey households and provide incentive items.
- Return to your HUB location and check out!
Donate Items for the PIT Count
During the Count, volunteers provide people experiencing homelessness with essentials for support and to thank them for sharing their information. With 2025’s PIT Count surveying nearly 700 people, we are needing at least 700 incentive bags to hand out in 2026.
Can’t volunteer on the day of the count but want to pitch in? Use our Amazon wish list and purchase items needed (can purchase anywhere, purchasing on Amazon is not required) and deliver to United Way of Denton County (1314 Teasley Lane, Denton TX) before Monday, 1/19/26!
Interested in partnering as a business to sponsor items, host a drive, etc. Contact us via email at DCHCinfo@gmail.com.

2021 – Data from the 2021 Count is not displayed due to incomplete or skewed data. Due to high risks of Covid-19, this year’s count only included individuals who were sheltered during the day of the count and did not include anyone residing outside of a shelter setting (ie: staying outside, staying in a vehicle, etc.).
