For many police departments, the response to homelessness is one of the most important issues they face on a daily basis.

In many ways, the nature of homelessness has not changed much in 25 years. It just seems to have become more severe. What has changed is how police and sheriffs’ departments see the issue of homelessness, and how they respond to it.

In their Critical Issues In Policing Series, the Police Executive Research Forum has published, The Police Response to Homelessness:Problem-Solving, Innovation, and Partnerships released in June 2018

The report provides analysis in areas such as the role of the police, perspectives from police officers, crime and the homeless community, key challenges and promising practices while concluding with “11 Steps Law Enforcement Agencies Can Take to Improve the Response to Homelessness”.
