APPLE TREE PROJECT
Interfaith Ministries of Denton, Inc is inviting you to participate in its largest community outreach initiative, the Apple Tree Project.

They are looking for “host sites” for the Apple Tree Project. Each year host sites adopt any number of “apples” which represent children in need of assistance. Employees or patrons of your organization select an “apple” from your tree and purchase two new shirts and two new pairs of pants for that child, based on the child’s individual need. Gift cards for each child are happily accepted in lieu of clothing items.

To get more information or join the project: Information Sheet

RECOMMENDATIONS ON HOW TO END VETERAN HOMELESSNESS

In the development of a Study on Homelessness among Veterans, the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (“TDHCA”), is seeking input through an Online Forum for discussion on Recommendations on How to End Veteran Homelessness. The forum will be open from Wednesday, March 9, 2016, through Wednesday April 6, 2016.

In order to participate in the Online Forum, go to: https://tdhca.websitetoolbox.com/ and click on the blue “Register” tab in the top right-hand side of the page. After completing registration, you will receive a confirmation email inviting you to begin participating in the Forum.

TDHCA, with input from the Texas Interagency Council for the Homeless (“TICH”) and the Texas Veterans Commission (“TVC”), is conducting this study on homelessness among veterans to be submitted to the Texas Legislature on December 1, 2016. The Study on Homelessness among Veterans is required by Senate Bill 1580, 84th (R) Texas Legislature and will be used to develop recommendations for the Texas Legislature for state programs and legislation to better serve veterans who are experiencing homelessness.

Through the Online Forum, TDHCA is seeking expertise and the experience from Homeless Services Providers, Veterans Service Providers, and other interested stakeholders on how to end Veteran homelessness in Texas. Accordingly, TDHCA aims to answer the following questions:

1.      What changes can be made to improve the effectiveness of Texas’ approach to addressing homelessness among Veterans?
2.      What recommendations to state law would better address homelessness among veterans?

For additional information on the study development, please visit http://www.tdhca.state.tx.us/tich/hvs.htm.
